Making Bird Feeders At Grove Court

With Spring on the way our residents have really enjoyed helping our feathered friends by making some feeders out of pine cones, filled with seeds and fat.

We’re lucky to get so many birds here at Grove Court and the residents enjoyed participating in the RSPB’s Big Garden Bird Watch.

Residents had a spotters sheet and kept a tally of which species they saw, including starlings, magpies, long-tailed tits and many more. Safe to say our birds will be sticking around for the foreseeable when they see the new feeders!

Chinese New Year at Grove Court

新年快乐 from all of us at Grove Court!

The year of the Rat was certainly an infamous one, so it’s been with great pleasure we welcomed in the year of the Ox here at Grove Court.

The residents had a go at making prawn toast, enjoyed making and painting fans and of course dining on the fantastic selection of Chinese cuisine put on by our dedicated kitchen staff. We always make a big effort for Chinese New Year because it’s such a change from the norm that the residents really appreciate it.

Grove Court’s Snow Day Heroes

The “Beast From The East 2” has certainly made its presence felt here in Suffolk!

Luckily a few members of staff have really stepped up to keep things at the home running smoothly and safely through the bad weather.

Leo has been using a very capable 4×4 to transport staff who couldn’t get to or from work and to collect and deliver essential items. Our gardener Paul has been nothing short of heroic in ensuring the paths are clear and salted around the home and keeping the car parks safe too.

As you can see from the pictures even Helen, our general manager, got involved pushing cars on the road into work. Covid hasn’t stopped us and neither will a bit of snow!

Grove Court Covid-19 Testing Hub

In light of developments regarding the Covid-19 pandemic Grove Court now has a Testing Hub.

This temporary structure will serve the singular purpose of a being space where staff and visitors can have both PCR and Lateral Flow Covid-19 tests.

This will really help us meet the needs of the ever expanding testing schedule during the pandemic and we have a dedicated team of staff, who will be leading our testing programmes.

Keeping our residents, staff and visitors safe during the pandemic is our top priority and this Testing Hub will be a key asset in helping us meet the challenge.

VE Day 75th Anniversary at Grove Court

Despite the challenges we face as an industry at this time we felt it was very important to do what we could to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day at Grove Court, especially as we have veterans living with us.

We really got in the spirit and although we couldn’t go through with our original plans we tried to create a special atmosphere for the residents when we visited them in their rooms. We had a VE Day trolley made up and went round in the morning greeting everyone with activity packs full of reminiscence material about WW2 and the opportunity to write little notes of friendship and support to other residents they are friendly with in the home. We also got a speaker set up on the trolley so we could play songs from the 40’s while we went round the home.

Then in the afternoon the trolley was transformed into a mobile bar with Pimm’s and a selection of regular bar favourites and snacks on offer. The residents thoroughly enjoyed it with many commenting on our outfits and saying that they appreciated the extra effort at this difficult time. We look forward to when we can open our doors to visitors and have public events again. Our thanks go to the efforts of everyone at Grove Court and to the families and friends of the home for your fantastic support in the meantime.

Gabbi the country and western singer visits Grove Court

After the success we’ve had with country and western music in the home over the past couple of years we were keen to have Gabbi come and sing for us. We certainly weren’t disappointed! She arrived dressed in a wonderful outfit complete with boots and a Stetson hat. She sang us hits from artists like Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn. Everyone had a rootin tootin time singing along to songs we knew and hearing ones we didn’t know too. Our thanks to Gabbi for such a great visit and we hope to hear her singing again soon.

Burns Night at Grove Court

The annual celebration of Burns Night is something we have really grown to love at Grove Court. We are extremely fortunate to have a close friend of the home who is Scottish and she takes the lead in organising our brilliant festivities. Of course there was a Scottish themed menu on offer, complete with haggis, neeps and tatties as well as cranachan and Atholl Brose. This year we had a go at a Scottish sword dance and had some fabulous entertainment from Rod and his bagpipes and Paul’s one man band. Our thanks again have to go to the wonderful Gillian, without whom none of this would be possible.
