Located on Spicer Road close to the centre of Exeter, The Lodge is an elegant Victorian house standing in an acre of landscaped gardens and offers a home from home for discerning guests who appreciate the comfort, quality and exceptional care that we offer.

The 58 en suite bedrooms and 2 suites offer personal or nursing care on a permanent or short stay basis, as well as offering end of life care.

From award-winning restaurant style dining to beautiful landscaped gardens and industry-leading social engagement, The Lodge provides the highest level of service and facilities.

Each person is individually assessed regarding their care need and the fee is set with the General Manager based on that assessment and the room chosen. Fees are reviewed annually.

Our General Manager

Having trained as a nurse in Plymouth and achieving a BSc Hons degree in psychology a few years later, Deborah has been General Manager at The Lodge since 2006. Under Deborah’s leadership The Lodge attained an ‘Outstanding’ Care Quality Commission rating in March 2020, a reflection of the hard work and dedication of all staff and of the exceptional care provided to our residents.

In spite of working in several specialisms including surgery and paediatrics, elder care was to become a lifelong passion of Deborah, as shown by over 20 years in the care home industry. Remaining passionate about The Lodge residents and staff has never presented a challenge, as the role of General Manager is more than just a job – it becomes part of an extended family for many working there, as our long service records show.

We believe residents should retain as much of their independence as possible and the importance of staying both physically and mentally active is key.

Many of our residents lead full and active lives, yet welcome the 24 hour a day security of a professional, personalised care environment and the opportunity to live amongst like-minded individuals from a spectrum of similar professional backgrounds. We believe that residents should retain as much of their independence and mobility as possible and are able to enjoy trips in our specially adapted minibus to places of interest and entertainment, or simply to the local shops.

As well as maintaining the highest possible standards of personal care, we also offer expert nursing care at The Lodge. Working closely with local health care professionals, our fully-qualified nursing staff are able to offer dedicated medical care to our residents, 24 hours a day. Nursing care goes beyond the everyday welfare of our residents to include such things as provision of post-operative care and specific nursing support for chronic and terminal illness.

Many of our long term residents have previously stayed with us on a short stay basis. There are many reasons for residents choosing a short stay – it maybe that a carer will be away or requires a break for a period of time, or that a resident needs specialised care during a period of post operative recovery. Whatever the reason for your stay, you will be afforded the same high standards of care and assessment as our longer-term residents.

Quality of life is as much a right for the terminally ill as for everyone else; at Elizabeth Finn Homes we believe that compassionate care for both the chronically and terminally ill can improve the quality of their lives. At The Lodge we provide for those who are terminally ill, with care that focuses on the control of pain and symptoms (sometimes referred to as palliative care).

We are delighted that The Lodge has attained the prestigious “Commend” status under the Gold Standard Framework in recognition of its excellent end of life care.
